Using Google Analytics to Improve Your Blogging and your Traffic. There is a lot of information in Google Analytics. In this session, the goal is to help you understand why analytics are important, how they work, which reports are the most essential to know, how do you decide which information is important … which isn’t and how to say goodbye to being overwhelmed by it all? Presented by the Product Manager of Google Analytics, this session will show bloggers key information to look at including goals, funnels and filters and ways to improve your blogs performance using that data. We’ll cover data points that are most applicable to blogging and what each data point is actually telling you.

Krista Seiden is an experienced leader in the digital analytics industry and has driven analytics and optimization practices at companies such as Adobe and The Apollo Group. She has recently been recognized as a 2014 “Rising Star” by the Digital Analytics Association (DAA) Awards for Excellence. In her current role as a Product Marketing Manager at Google, she leads web analytics, reporting, testing, and optimization for the Enterprise Marketing team. She has evangelized optimization internally and expanded A/B testing efforts over 15-fold to the point where her team executes over 50 tests per quarter.

Following Google’s presentation we will have a hands on workshop with actual use of your analytics and what it means to you.

A one hour session discussing the Jetpack plugin and a review of favorite modules—the ridiculously awesome ones—like Related Posts, Publicize, Posts by Email, Gravatar Hovercard, Carousel and the fabulous Spelling/Grammar/After The Deadline module. Finally, we’ll have an overview of the other settings you can use to power up your blog using Jetpack.

John Hawkins will share his thoughts, provide lists and answer your questions on this key plugin. John is one of the founders of 9Seeds, a company that specializes in custom WordPress development and over the past two years he’s been an organizer, speaker, sponsor and attendee at 20+ WordCamp* events across the US. (*conferences that focus on everything WordPress.)

Here’s a session that can help everyone update their knowledge in the area of legal awareness as a blogger.

Bloggers have a number of unique issues that they must contend with; everything from copyright legal issues, trademark legal issues, libel, privacy, fair use considerations, plagiarism, understanding creative commons, defamation, protecting your words from being used – and using other people’s words, disclosure and even the decision of incorporating your blog or forming an LLC. All these raise legal issues that bloggers must contend with. During this session, Jonathan Tobin will address some of the more important issues and help you understand how to deal with them before serious problems arise.

Jonathan Tobin who is an attorney heads Counsel for Creators, a legal firm that focuses entirely on the needs of creative businesses and individuals such as bloggers, online authors and publishers.

A funny thing happened along the way in planning this years BACON—next year should really rock. Three of the speakers we had hoped would be able to participate this year tried very hard to alter schedules and sneak away from other commitments but were unable to do so but were so jazzed about what we are doing that they have pre-committed to participating next year (I guess this means we will have another next year!). Those with regrets but totally into this conference and its bloggers are Rob Torres, Head of Travel for Google; Phil Hollows, Founder & CEO of FeedBlitz and George Stephanis, lead for JetPack for Automattic (owner of WordPress). Its nice to see the interest from others for our small conference and with speakers like these and certainly others to come it looks like next year may be pretty cool.
